The Source |Today In Hip Hop History: 2 Chainz Dropped His Second Studio LP ‘B.O.A.T.S.: #METIME’ 12 Years Ago

On this day in 2013, 2 Chainz followed up his breakout solo debut with his second studio album B.O.A.T.S. II: #METIME, released through Def Jam Recordings. The project carried the weight of high expectations after Based on a T.R.U. Storyestablished the Atlanta hitmaker as one of rap’s biggest personalities, and he delivered with a mix of club-ready anthems, lyrical flexes, and undeniable charisma.

With production from heavyweights like Pharrell, Mike WiLL Made-It, Mannie Fresh, and Drumma Boy, the album showcased Chainz’s knack for pairing inventive beats with his unique Southern drawl. Standout singles included “Feds Watching” featuring Pharrell, which became an instant summer anthem, and the Drake-assisted “All Me,” which lived on both artists’ catalogs as one of the most memorable collaborations of that year.

B.O.A.T.S. II: #METIME debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, moving over 63,000 copies in its first week. The project featured guest appearances from Drake, Lil Wayne, Pusha T, Lloyd, Fergie, Rich Homie Quan, and more, adding depth to an already star-studded tracklist. Critics noted that while Chainz leaned heavily into his larger-than-life personality, he also showed flashes of introspection, weaving humor and street knowledge into his verses.

The LP solidified 2 Chainz’s position not just as a feature king, but as a solo artist capable of commanding the charts on his own terms. It also cemented his ability to straddle mainstream popularity and street credibility — a balancing act that became his trademark throughout the 2010s.

Twelve years later, B.O.A.T.S. II: #METIME stands as a snapshot of 2 Chainz at the height of his run, combining his witty punchlines with beats that kept the clubs and radios spinning. It remains a key chapter in his catalog and a reminder of why he became one of hip hop’s most consistent hitmakers of the decade.
