Hus Kingpin – Wavo Forever (Album Review)

Hus Kingpin returns with another strong release, Wavo Forever, delivering a project rooted in gritty lyricism and classic underground hip-hop aesthetics.

The album opens with “RZA Fangs,” featuring RZA. The track sets the tone with a dark, raw atmosphere, built on themes of warfare, battle rap, and crime-driven imagery. “Ghost of Camay” follows with a smoother, laid-back vibe, shifting into themes of nightlife, romance, and a luxurious lifestyle. Next up, “Next Level,” featuring Inspectah Deck, showcases fast-paced lyricism over slick production. The track emphasizes elevation—both in skill and status—within the rap game, with Deck delivering sharp metaphors about outlasting and outperforming the competition.

“Hang Glide Samurai,” featuring Raekwon and Kurupt, sticks to a classic hip-hop structure, with verses centered on street life, success, and rising through the industry. “Mind Divine,” featuring Killah Priest and Planet Asia, blends rapid-fire delivery with spacey, conscious themes, mixing spiritual undertones with gritty street narratives. On “Who Made You Look Pt. 2,” Hus Kingpin teams up with Shyheim for a cinematic track filled with introspective bars, street narratives, and themes of self-awareness layered over luxurious imagery.

“The Pleasures,” featuring Rozewood and Smoovth, leans into a grimy, cinematic soundscape. The dark production complements lyrics focused on crime, ambition, and indulgence, while evoking a nostalgic, film-inspired aesthetic reminiscent of 1940s noir blended with modern underground rap. “Majestic,” featuring Ghostface Killah and Planet Asia, delivers sharp lyricism paired with vivid underworld imagery. “Killers Theme,” featuring Wu-Syndicate, incorporates gritty verses alongside audio samples referencing organized crime and syndicate culture, adding to the album’s cinematic feel.

“Saigon Velour,” featuring Tricky and Ghostface Killah, stands out with its artistic and abstract imagery, blending styles into a unique sonic experience. The album concludes with “Wisewave,” featuring Bronze Nazareth, a dense and moody track driven by abstract lyricism and heavy themes of street life, violence, and resilience. Production across Wavo Forever is handled by a strong lineup including RZA, Mathematics, Iron Sheik, Terminal 3, Shaka Amazulu the 7th, Prynce P, Doktor Rheal, Big Ghost Ltd, A.K., Relense, and Bronze Nazareth, whose contributions help shape the album’s cohesive, gritty sound. Overall, Wavo Forever is a cohesive project that stays true to Hus Kingpin’s signature style—gritty, cinematic, and lyrically focused—while bringing together a strong lineup of collaborators to enhance its depth and atmosphere.

Album Rating 9/10
