Hip-hop icon Eve sat down with Ebro Darden on Apple Music’s The Message to share her curated playlist and reflect on key moments in her celebrated career. The conversation also touched on one of her most personal transformations yet: motherhood.

When asked if becoming a mother was the biggest change she has ever experienced, Eve did not hesitate. “Absolutely,” she told Ebro. “The emotions that come with that… it breaks you open in a whole different way.”

Eve recalled advice she received at her baby shower from a friend’s wife, who told her she would not only be giving birth to her child but also to a new version of herself. That sentiment, Eve said, proved true in ways she could never have anticipated.

“It’s not just the baby itself, but the emotions and the hormones,” she explained. “My son is three now, and I feel like I’m just getting back to the version of me before pregnancy. I’m not her exactly, because I’ve changed, but I’m clear again and I have energy again.”

Her candid reflections offer a window into the profound emotional shifts that can come with motherhood, even for someone who has reinvented herself multiple times throughout her career.
