Zig Zag Zig by K. Solar — Album Review

Upcoming artist K. Solar closes out 2025 with their latest album, Zig Zag Zig. The intro, “The KOSt.”, opens with a sampled monologue about conducting energy and building the “impossible” machine, setting the conceptual tone for the project.

Kicking off the album, “Mantra” (feat. David Allison & Anton Sushev) delivers a smooth, reflective flow centered on perspective, focus, truth, misinformation, life’s journey, and the choices we make along the way. Following that, “Data” (feat. Koncept Jack$on) explores confidence, power, and a rejection of societal norms through sharp metaphors and vivid imagery. “40,000 Years Of Funk” touches on destiny, overcoming challenges, self-worth, and staying true to oneself.

“Memento” (feat. Santana Sankofa) brings a softer tone, reflecting on past lives, reincarnation, and memory. “Diamonds and Pyramids” emphasizes supremacy and historical depth, using structures like pyramids as symbols of foundation, knowledge, and wisdom.

“Rites Of Spring III” explores themes of self-reflection, societal challenges, and personal growth. Moving forward, “Get Urs” (feat. Rhys Langston) expresses a raw and urgent need for self-protection. “Flora Fauna” examines self-worth, destiny, loyalty, and the dualities of life. “Tetris” compares navigating life’s challenges to a game of strategy, highlighting planning, gratitude, and calculated risk-taking.

“Gentle Giant” delivers a strong solo instrumental, driven by boom-bap drums and heavy tones. “California My Way” serves as an ode to California, capturing a laid-back cruising vibe while reflecting on enjoying life, overcoming challenges, and embracing the journey. The album concludes with “Signalz”, a spoken-word piece on the powerful yet self-destructive nature of humanity—particularly the resilience of the Black man—blending musical lyricism with themes of self-discovery, enlightenment, and navigating societal pressures.

Album Rating: 8/10
