With the road to Williamsport heating up, one of New Jersey’s top Little League squads is suddenly facing a major setback and the reason is stirring plenty of debate.

Marco Rocco, a standout player on Haddonfield’s Little League All-Star team, last year’s state champions, has been suspended just ahead of Thursday’s highly anticipated state title game. The reason? A celebratory bat flip.

The decision has sparked backlash online and within the baseball community. Darren Rovell of Cllct first reported the suspension on social media, sharing video clips comparing Marco’s bat flip to one by former MLB All-Star Todd Frazier during his Little League days. The clip, which shows nothing overly flashy or taunting, has many calling the league’s ruling excessive.

Marco Rocco, a star player on Haddonfield (NJ) Little League Team — the reigning state champs — was suspended for his bat flip ahead of Thursday’s state championship game.

Marco’s father is reportedly seeking an emergency temporary restraining order in hopes of getting his son back on the field in time for the state championship.

Bat flips have become a growing part of baseball culture; a form of celebration rather than disrespect. Unless it crosses a line into taunting or unsportsmanlike conduct, many believe it should be embraced, not punished.

With just days left before the big game, all eyes are now on league officials to see if they’ll reverse the call and let the reigning champs play at full strength.

Time is running out.
