On this day in Hip Hop history, Jason “Jadakiss” Phillips dropped his highly anticipated debut studio album Kiss Tha Game Goodbye under the Ruff Ryders/Interscope banner.

Released during a monumental month for Hip Hop, alongside classics like Jay-Z’s The Blueprint and Fabolous’ Ghetto Fabolous, Kiss Tha Game Goodbye gave fans their first in-depth look at The L.O.X.’s lyrical sharpshooter. More than just a solo debut, the project cemented Jada’s evolution from mixtape phenom to a respected solo force in the game, laying the foundation for a career that would eventually align with Roc Nation.

The album’s impact was undeniable, led by standout singles like the club-friendly “Knock Yourself Out,” the gritty street anthem “We Gonna Make It” featuring fellow D-Block soldier Styles P, and heavyweight collaborations with DMX, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, and even Mashonda. Behind the boards, a dream team of producers—including Swizz Beatz, DJ Premier, Just Blaze, and The Neptunes—helped craft a sound that matched Jada’s razor-sharp lyricism.

Certified gold and still revered by fans today, Kiss Tha Game Goodbye marked the official arrival of Jadakiss as a solo powerhouse.

Salute to Jada, Swizz, The L.O.X., Premier, Pharrell, Just Blaze, and everyone who helped make this release a timeless piece of Hip Hop history.
