Allen Iverson opened up about one of the most challenging chapters of his life during a recent appearance on ESPN’s First Take to discuss his new memoir, Misunderstood. The NBA legend revealed that his lowest moment came not on the basketball court, but during his divorce from Tawanna Turner.

“It was self-inflicted,” Iverson told host Stephen A. Smith. “But it was when Tawanna divorced me.” The two married in 2001, during the height of Iverson’s superstardom, but their relationship endured years of highs and lows. They separated in 2008, finalizing their divorce in 2013—the same year Iverson retired from basketball.

Reflecting on that painful period, Iverson said, “That’s when I knew I’d hit my lowest point and it was time for deep self-reevaluation. When I looked down and saw ‘Iverson vs. Iverson’ on the divorce papers, the tears started hitting the page.”

However, Iverson also shared a happier update—he and Turner have since reconciled. When asked how he won her back, Iverson laughed, saying, “A lot of Keith Sweat. I had to beg a lot.”

Misunderstood offers fans a deeper look into Iverson’s life beyond the game, chronicling his struggles, redemption, and the personal growth that brought him back to love and peace.
