Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has officially secured a multi-year deal with ESPN to become a recurring contributor on First Take, the network announced Wednesday. His expanded role begins Thursday with a live broadcast from Norfolk State University, part of the show’s ongoing HBCU tour.

Newton, who first became a regular presence on First Take in October 2024, will now appear more frequently—potentially several times a week—though his schedule remains flexible as he continues to balance other media commitments.

ESPN’s Executive Vice President David Roberts called Newton “a unique talent who is authentically himself, and that’s a key ingredient for success on First Take. Cam is also an ultimate team player. All of us at ESPN look forward to watching Cam create a strong connection with his teammates and our fans.”

For Newton, the move represents another step in his post-football career. “I am excited to be back with the First Taketeam and share my voice on all things sports,” Newton said. “This is an incredible opportunity for me to connect with fans and bring my passion and knowledge to a show I’ve always admired.”

The former Carolina Panthers star will join the familiar lineup of Stephen A. Smith, Molly Qerim, and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo for both in-studio and on-campus broadcasts, adding his outspoken personality and football pedigree to one of ESPN’s flagship debate shows.
