Chance the Rapper has officially announced the release date for his long-awaited sophomore album, Star Line. According to his website, the project will arrive on August 15, with pre-orders now available in various formats.

While riding on his tour bus, Chance shared a message directly with fans, urging them to refer to the project by name instead of simply calling it “the album.”

“Alright, so this was the main point I was trying to make: stop calling it ‘the album,’” Chance explained. “And I don’t mean that in an ungrateful way. I’m grateful that people are putting in my comments, ‘Drop the album.’ But I’m not finna drop the album until y’all start calling it Star Line.”

He emphasized the uniqueness of the project, stressing that it’s more than just another album release.

“I’m not gonna drop the project, I’m not gonna do these installations — I got so much shit ready. But I hope that y’all understand that,” he continued. “Drop the album — that’s for all the other artists, for everybody else whose work I also appreciate. But what I’m doing is something different. It’s something very specific. It’s called Star Line.”

He added that fan engagement with the correct title could influence how soon the album arrives: “If y’all say, ‘Drop Star Line’ enough, it’s gonna make me drop Star Line. When y’all say ‘the album,’ it confuses me. I’ve been saying one specific phrase for like two, three years now.”

The announcement ends a long wait for fans, who have been anticipating a new full-length project from Chance since 2019’s The Big Day.
