Lil Wayne Reveals What He Thinks is His Greatest Verse Ever

Hip-hop fans were surprised this week when several of Lil Wayne’s iconic mixtapes from the 2000s, including the entire Da Drought series and Dedication, appeared on major streaming services like Apple Music and Tidal.1 The sudden availability of these classic projects, which were originally free releases, has sparked confusion among fans and industry insiders.

According to a report from Billboard, the mixtapes went live on Apple Music, but the publication noted it had “reached out to the rapper for comment” on their official status. The uncertainty only grew when Rolling Stone quoted a source close to the rapper who claimed the uploads were “not legal legitimate uploads” and had already been taken down, despite appearing on Lil Wayne’s official artist profile.

The incident highlights the legal landscape surrounding hip-hop mixtapes, which often feature uncleared samples and beats. While some artists are successfully working to clear their old mixtapes for official streaming releases, the status of Lil Wayne’s legendary projects remains unconfirmed. Fans are now left awaiting official word on whether they will be able to stream these influential pieces of hip-hop history.
