Cortlen Henry, better known as YNW Bortlen, was offered a plea deal Thursday that could significantly reduce the prison time he faces in connection with the 2018 murders of YNW associates Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr.

In Broward County Circuit Court, Judge Martin S. Fein outlined the offer from prosecutors: drop two first-degree murder counts if Henry pleads no contest to six remaining charges, including accessory after the fact, witness tampering, conspiracy, and gang-related offenses. The deal would carry a 16-year, three-month sentence, served concurrently, with credit for time already served.

Without the deal, Henry could face multiple mandatory life sentences across two separate cases. Prosecutors allege that fellow YNW member Jamell “YNW Melly” Demons carried out the shootings, while Henry helped cover up the crime. Melly, whose first trial ended in a mistrial earlier this year, remains in jail awaiting retrial.

“I can’t make the state make you an offer, and I can’t make you accept any offer,” Judge Fein told Henry. “I’m just the referee. This is a business decision between you, your lawyers, and the state.”

Fein emphasized that Henry is under no pressure to accept the plea, urging him to consult with his attorneys and family. A September 9 hearing has been set for Henry to announce his decision, with trials in both cases scheduled to begin the following day.

To ensure Henry fully understood the stakes, the judge placed him under oath and questioned him about his education, mental health, and comprehension; a safeguard against future claims of coercion or ignorance.

Henry’s decision will determine whether the case closes with a plea or moves into a high-profile trial that could send him to prison for life.
