The rapper responded to the ChatGPT controversy by saying critics misunderstood his comments and insisted he’s still the one writing his lyrics.

BabyChiefDoIt fired back at criticism over his use of ChatGPT to assist with lyrics, claiming his words were misinterpreted and insisting he’s still the mastermind behind his pen.

“If ChatGPT was the solution 2 all my problems Y in the absolute f#ck would I give yall the sauce,” he posted to his Instagram Story, doubling down on his creative control.

The backlash erupted after the rising Chicago drill artist told Power 105.1 that he’s been using ChatGPT to help finish songs.

“I’ve been using that s### to write my lyrics, real s###,” he admitted. “That s### works.” He clarified that he doesn’t copy the AI-generated lyrics word-for-word, saying, “It was some, you know, some s### that I could pull out of.”

Still, the internet didn’t hold back. Critics accused him of compromising the authenticity of rap.

“Using AI like this will lead to the downfall of the entire music industry. Where is the creativity?” one commenter wrote. Another added, “Man I’d rather write bars off the dome than do s### like this. Where’s the soul & personality to the lyrics? Where’s the authenticity?”

Someone close to the rapper, possibly a team member, even stepped in to caution him about how he presents himself in interviews. “We gotta make sure we always position things from the drivers seat. We don’t wanna make it seem like you’re not a real writer and lyricist cause you are. People think you got ghost writers now,” they said. “We never wanna discredit ourselves.”

BabyChiefDoIt, who gained traction with his single “Went West,” has been carving out a name in the drill scene with his raw delivery and catchy hooks. His recent feature on Chance the Rapper’s new album, STAR LINE,—on the track “Drapetomania”—was expected to be a breakout moment, but the AI controversy has cast a shadow over the buzz.

He later mocked the outrage by prompting ChatGPT to call him the “dopest writer,” joking that he doesn’t need artificial intelligence to prove his skills.
