Major League Baseball has announced the 30 nominees for the 2025 Roberto Clemente Award, the game’s most prestigious individual honor that recognizes players for their character, philanthropy, and community involvement on and off the field. The announcement fittingly came today, September 15, Roberto Clemente Day, which MLB has celebrated annually since 2002 to honor the legacy of the Hall of Famer and humanitarian.

This year’s nominees include some of the most giving players in the sport, with 19 first-time honorees. The list features established stars like Mookie Betts, Aaron Nola, Pablo López, and Francisco Lindor, alongside rising names such as Corbin Carroll, Paul Skenes, and Bobby Witt Jr. Each club put forward one player who embodies Clemente’s enduring spirit, and together the nominees reflect a broad range of community causes, from youth education and underserved families to cancer research, environmental advocacy, and international outreach.

Here are the 2025 Roberto Clemente Award nominees, by team:

  • Arizona Diamondbacks – Corbin Carroll*
  • Oakland Athletics – Lawrence Butler*
  • Atlanta Braves – Spencer Strider*

By the numbers, the 2025 class of nominees has combined for 50 All-Star selections, eight Gold Gloves, six World Series championships, and includes one League MVP in Betts. Fans will also recognize multiple MLB Develops Youth Program alumni, showcasing how Clemente’s influence continues to inspire the next generation of players to give back.

Fans can take part in the voting process at MLBTogether.com/clementeaward, with the fan vote counting as one tally in the final decision made by a blue-ribbon panel that includes league executives, media partners, Hall of Fame representatives, and members of the Clemente family. The winner will be honored at the 2025 World Series.

As part of the tradition, all players and coaches with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team Clemente represented throughout his Hall of Fame career, will wear his iconic No. 21. Across the league, players and personnel will also wear “21” patches, with nominees and past winners having special uniform distinctions in honor of their recognition.

Roberto Clemente Day also marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, and MLB will highlight the lasting impact of Latino players and culture throughout the game. From campaign spots featuring Francisco Lindor, Ronald Acuña Jr., and Fernando Tatis Jr., to original content on MLB Español, the league continues to showcase the history, music, and heritage that connect Latin America to baseball.

More than 50 years after his passing, Roberto Clemente’s legacy remains as powerful as ever. The annual award not only honors those who carry his spirit forward, but also reminds the baseball world that greatness is measured not only by what happens between the lines, but also by the lives touched beyond the ballpark.
