De La Soul is one of the trailblazing Hip-Hop acts scheduled to release a new album this year as part of Mass Appeal’s Legend Has It series.

Speaking to AllHipHop last month, Maseo revealed the album’s title is Cabin in the Sky. The project will include posthumous contributions from De La Soul co-founder Trugoy the Dove, who died suddenly in February 2023.

Posdnous and Maseo confirmed the title in a recent panel alongside Slick Rick, Ghostface Killah, Nas and other Legend Has It artists while talking about the spiritual nature of the project.

“Normally when you’re working on an album, you let the title come to you,” Pos said. “At one point it was like De La’s new album, and we’re working, working and I come across this movie, and I was like, ‘Yo, this title is crazy, cabin in the sky.’ Immediately, I was like, ‘Dave.’”

Mass Appeal’s Legend Has It series is a celebration of New York Hip-Hop most cherished acts, with each project designed to honor the lasting cultural impact of legendary rap figures. Announced in April, the label promised to roll out seven new albums from a lineup that reads like a hall of fame: Nas & DJ Premier, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, Raekwon, Big L, De La Soul and Slick Rick, along with the “epic return” of a surprise guest.

In addition to music, Mass Appeal has teamed with Marvel to produce a special comic book series reimagining each artist as superheroes—debuting at Comic Con in October and further blending music, narrative and visual artistry.

Several albums in the Legend Has It series have already been released in 2025. Among them are Slick Rick’s first album in 26 years, Victory; Ghostface Killah’s highly anticipated Supreme Clientele 2, Raekwon’s The Emperor’s New Clothes and Mobb Deep’s Infinite.

Upcoming releases include Nas & DJ Premier’s deeply-awaited collaborative album, posthumous tributes from Big L and, of course, De La Soul. The series doubled down on Mass Appeal’s mission to “preserve the past, celebrate the present, and push Hip-Hop into the future,” ensuring these trailblazers’ legacies remain vibrant.
