Fivio Foreign stirred backlash after declaring Jim Jones “better than Nas” during his first post-jail interview, sparking heated reactions.

Fivio Foreign stirred up a storm during his first post-jail interview on Jim Jones‘ new podcast “Artist 2 Artist,” released Sunday (August 17), after declaring, “You better than Nas” while sitting across from the Harlem rap veteran.

The conversation started as a discussion about how artists can benefit from viral moments—even the controversial kind—when Jones brought up the buzz surrounding his earlier remarks comparing him to Nas.

“You better than Nas,” Fivio told Jones, reigniting the debate, despite his hosts’ apparent reluctance to revisit the topic.

Fivio then tried to explain his stance, saying he didn’t grow up on Nas but instead gravitated toward Chicago drill artists like Chief Keef and Gino Marley.

Still, Fivio acknowledged Nas gave him a major co-sign by featuring him and A$AP Ferg on the 2020 track “Spicy” from King’s Disease, which later won the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2021.

But when pressed on Nas’ music, Fivio admitted, “But, I can’t sit there and say a Nas bar to you, or a song.” He added, “I like ‘One Mic,’” but couldn’t name anything else.

Jones quickly pushed back, saying, “But I can,” and reminded Fivio, “Nas was my era.” He also noted that younger generations may not have the same connection to Nas’ catalog.

However, listeners weren’t buying Fivio’s reasoning.

One user commented, “A 35 year old rapper from New York don’t know no Nas bars.” Another wrote, “Bro 35 talkin bout he influenced by Chief Keef lmao.” A third added, “This n#### is 36 years old and saying Chief Keef influenced him after dissing Nas who put him on his album.”

Mysonne Calls Out Fivio Foreign Over Nas Take

Mysonne, another New York emcee, chimed in to defend Nas and call out Fivio’s take.

“You don’t have to be able to tell us a Nas verse because he wasn’t your era,” he said. “Nas created a Era of hip hop that can’t be recreated.”

He also questioned Fivio’s credibility in weighing in on Nas’ legacy. “Respectfully, you shouldn’t even be involved in this debate because you can’t objectively give an opinion because you didn’t experience Nas era!” Mysonne said. “But if you younger than 40 this isn’t a dialogue you can engage it objectively my brother. Love you though.”
