This franchise just keeps winning. STARZ has officially greenlit Power: Origins, an 18-episode prequel series that will trace the early days of Ghost and Tommy before they became two of television’s most infamous figures.
Set in the concrete jungle of New York City, the series will follow Ghost and Tommy as “ambitious young entrepreneurs on the rise, determined to make their mark on the streets of New York City.” MeKai Curtis, who stars as Kanan Stark in Power Book III: Raising Kanan, will return to the franchise, continuing the character’s complex backstory.
“I’m excited to continue to explore the origin stories of the Power Universe’s founding fathers,” said Sascha Penn, who returns as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. “Ghost and Tommy’s backstories have fueled years of constant fascination and speculation among fans, and I’m thrilled to be able to answer some long-held questions and share new layers of the story that viewers won’t see coming.”
Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at STARZ, added, “Our fans have been asking for Ghost and Tommy’s origins story since we first met them in Power and with the launch of this series, we’re delivering in a big way. This marks an electrifying new chapter in the franchise’s evolution as we dive deep into the legacy of these iconic characters and the explosive moments that shaped their path.”
This dope announcement, pun intended, comes just before the premiere of the third and final season of Power Book IV: Force and follows the explosive close of Raising Kanan season four. That series will return for one final season. Power Book II: Ghostconcluded in 2024, but Michael Rainey Jr. has already hinted that his character Tariq may appear again.
“However that happens — whether it is a little baby picture in Origins — I’m happy to bring Tariq to the screen for the people. So however that may be [possible],” Rainey told PEOPLE in October 2024. “The [Power] universe, our universe never ends. We got Origins coming… It never ends.”
Here’s what’s interesting, while it’s still unclear if Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora will step into their legendary roles as Ghost and Tommy for the prequel, Sikora has shown interest in contributing as a narrator, similar to how 50 Cent voices Raising Kanan.
With Power: Origins now in motion, the franchise is once again proving that its legacy is far from over.
