The City of Gary and Mayor Eddie Melton are bringing the community together for a free, two-day celebration at the legendary 2300 Jackson Street, paying tribute to Michael Jackson’s birthday and the timeless legacy of the entire Jackson family.
The festivities begin Thursday, August 28, with a special mural dedication honoring Grammy-winning singer Deniece Williams at 10 a.m. on 25th and Broadway.
On Friday, August 29, from 12 noon to 7 p.m., the 2300 Jackson Street Block Party kicks off in full swing. Hosted by actor and comedian Chris Tucker, the day will celebrate the King of Pop’s birthday with music, food, and special appearances. Partygoers can expect sets from DJ Kid Capri, DJ K Ceasar, DJ All OWT, DJ Cheech Beats, and surprise guests to keep the energy high throughout the day.

The celebration continues Saturday, August 30, also from 12 noon to 7 p.m., when Gary pays homage to the entire Jackson family. Original Jackson 5 members Jackie and Marlon Jackson will return home for a recognition ceremony that also honors the late Tito Jackson, celebrating his life and musical contributions.
Both days of the 2300 Jackson Street Block Party will take place at Roosevelt High School, 730 W. 25th Avenue in Gary, IN, marking a historic community gathering that celebrates the city’s most iconic family.
