In a rare occurrence, Sean “Diddy” Combs is going on the offensive, legally, taking his ongoing defamation case to another level with a new $100 million filing. The suit targets Courtney Burgess, Burgess’ lawyer Ariel Mitchell, and NewsNation’s parent company Nexstar, accusing them of deliberately spreading false and damaging claims about him for their gain.
In case you missed it, the sprawling civil case stems from interviews Burgess and Mitchell gave on NewsNation, where they allegedly made explosive accusations that Diddy’s team insists are entirely fabricated.
According to court filings cited by Hypebeast and reported by other media outlets, Burgess claimed he was given flash drives containing videos of Combs involved in sexual assault with celebrities and minors. Combs’ lawyers maintain not only are the tapes fake, but Burgess has never even met Diddy. They argue the statements were made with a “reckless disregard for the truth.”
Get this, originally filed for $50 million, the lawsuit was recently amended to seek $100 million in damages. Diddy’s attorneys say the increase reflects the extent of the “severe reputational harm” caused by the allegations, which they argue sparked a “media frenzy” that has damaged public perception and complicated his right to a fair trial.
This contested legal battle comes on the heels of another major case involving Diddy. He was recently acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges but convicted on two prostitution-related charges. His legal team is now pushing for his release from federal detention while he awaits sentencing.
With this new $100 million escalation, Diddy is making it clear he plans to fight aggressively against what he calls false narratives designed to destroy his name.
