Sebastian Telfair has officially begun serving his prison sentence, with records confirming that the 40-year-old former NBA guard reported to Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution in New Jersey. He is expected to remain there for the next six months.
The sentence stems from a violation of the conditions of his supervised release in a healthcare fraud case, for which a judge ordered him to serve additional time earlier this summer. Speaking in New York City before reporting to prison, Telfair called the situation “super unfair” and even appealed to former President Donald Trump for a pardon.
“I did too good to be sitting in anybody’s jail,” Telfair said, expressing frustration over the ruling.
Fort Dix FCI, described as a low-security federal facility, currently houses more than 3,000 inmates. While it’s unclear whether any consideration for a pardon is underway, Telfair says he intends to use his time behind bars productively, stating, “We definitely have got some wins coming.”
