Gervonta “Tank” Davis is stepping outside the boxing ring once again to fight for his community. The Baltimore native and world champion is set to host his annual Back-to-School Drive on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Robert C. Marshall Recreation Center.
Presented by GTD Cares in partnership with Unlimited Potential Mentoring, Inc., the event will equip Baltimore students with school supplies, clothing, MacBooks, food, book bags, and other giveaways designed to help them start the school year with confidence.
For Davis, the mission goes far beyond handing out materials. Having grown up in Baltimore facing poverty and limited resources, he knows firsthand what it’s like to walk into a classroom without the essentials. Boxing gave him an outlet and a path forward, and now he’s determined to provide that same sense of support and opportunity for the next generation.
“Going to school and not having the basic things you need is really hard and impacts how you feel and even perform in school,” Davis said. “Baltimore raised me, and I’ll never forget where I came from. I think the kids in Baltimore deserve more, and that’s why I’m committed to giving back through this back-to-school drive. My goal is to give as many kids as possible the tools, confidence, and support they need to walk into the classroom ready to succeed. Every child in this city should feel they have unlimited potential.”
Families attending the drive can expect more than just supplies. Raising Cane’s will provide meals, Pure Fuel will offer drinks, and community organizations will be on hand with additional resources and giveaways. Davis hopes to expand the initiative each year, reaching more children across Baltimore and showing them that someone who walked the same streets believes in their future.
