Known for spitting legendary bars, Method Man is now catching attention for his ripped physique. The Wu-Tang icon recently opened up about how a battle with insomnia pushed him to reshape not just his body but also his mindset.
Sitting down with Hasan Minhaj on Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know, Meth got real about how sleepless nights led him straight into the gym. “I’m going through this insomnia, and I’m thinking to myself, ‘I have a membership at the gym. Maybe I should just go to the gym and work some of this stuff off. Maybe I’ll get some rest. One day turned into two. Two days turned into three, and I’m talking 4 am in the morning, brother, every day,” he shared.
At first, he didn’t even have a clear plan. It started with raw intention and self-accountability. “And I had no routine. I didn’t have anything, but I had the mentality of, there are 24 hours in a day. If I can sit down and watch Game of Thrones for an hour and make sure that I’m there with, no commercials, by the way, I can go to the gym and do something for myself for an hour, whether it be lifting the barbell or whatever.”
What began as a way to pass the time evolved into a new lifestyle. “And three days turned into five, and then this routine started happening, and I fell in love with it because it made me feel like I wasn’t a loser. It made me feel like I had some discipline. I could pat myself on the back for accomplishing something, and I did something with my day, that day, as opposed to being on Call of Duty or playing Madden or NBA 2K,” he continued.
Meth also shared some real talk for folks his age who might be hesitant to start their own fitness journey. His message was simple which is to forget the excuses. You don’t need to move like a bodybuilder overnight. Just start somewhere and stick with it.
That part.
